The Communications and Marketing Committee (appointed) shall be responsible for the development of resources to promote state organizational publicity, public relations, the use of Society publications and the media. The committee shall stress that chapter, state and international newsletters or any publications print only materials (written content, images, cartoon, and artwork) for which they have the permission of the author/artist. The official publication of the Virginia State Organization is The Bridge. The editor and webmaster shall serve as ex officio members of this committee, without vote.





The Coordinating Council Committee (elected by councils) shall serve as a resource for the planning and implementing of activities and projects of the coordinating councils and for other activities designated by the state executive board. The committee shall assist the membership and expansion committee when chapter and/or council issues arise. The committee shall consist of a chair appointed by the president. Committee members shall consist of those who serve as chair of an area coordinating council.











The Finance Committee (appointed) shall supervise the financial affairs of the organization, including recommendations for the expenditure and investment of funds, preparation of an annual budget for adoption by the state executive board, an annual financial review of the budget, and a review of the records by a certified public accountant annually. The committee shall consist of up to five (5) members appointed by the president, one to be designated as chair. The state president shall serve as ex officio member, with vote. The state executive secretary and state treasurer shall serve as ex officio members, without vote.





The Leadership Development Committee (appointed) shall be responsible for the promotion of leadership development of state and chapter leaders at the state level. The committee and appropriate staff and officers shall plan a leadership seminar in even-numbered years. The committee shall consist of up to five (5) members.





The Membership and Expansion Committee (appointed) shall study and make recommendations related to membership and expansion of chapters and councils. The committee shall provide assistance to chapters and coordinating councils referred by the state president. The committee shall evaluate the recommendations of persons proposed for state honorary membership and submit the names of qualified candidates for vote by the state executive board. The committee shall maintain necrology records and plan a memorial service for each state convention. The state treasurer and chair of the coordinating council committee shall serve as ex-officio members without vote.





The Nominating Committee (elected) shall consist of a chair and four (4) members, elected at the state convention in odd-numbered years. Committee composition shall reflect all geographic areas of the state.





The Personnel Committee (appointed) shall screen applicants and recommend candidates to the state executive board when a personnel position is to be filled. The committee shall determine the requirements and qualifications for state staff positions, i.e., the executive secretary, editor, treasurer, webmaster, and any other compensated staff positions. The committee shall recommend reappointment/renewal of staff contracts based on biennial evaluations.





The Rules Committee (appointed) shall receive all proposals for amending the VSO State Bylaws and Standing Rules and present proposals to the executive committee for study and recommendations to the state executive board. The committee shall consist of up to five (5) members. The parliamentarian and the editor shall serve as ex officio members, without vote. The state president and/or the state executive secretary shall submit the state bylaws and standing rules to the International Constitution Committee for review each biennium. The committee shall review chapter rules and coordinating council rules submitted biennially. The committee shall interpret the Virginia State Organization Bylaws and Standing Rules as requested by members, committees, state boards, and/or officers. The committee shall update for publication the VSO State Bylaws and Standing Rules as revised and/or amended at the state convention.




The Strategic Planning Committee (appointed) shall be responsible for planning and monitoring the implementation of the strategic plan for the Virginia State Organization, including its approved actions, goals, mission and vision. The committee shall recommend a state strategic plan to the executive committee for adoption by February of the even-numbered year. The committee will forward the approved plan to the executive board and post the plan on the state website.
The committee shall recommend to the state executive board any updates to the state’s strategic plan. Officers and committees responsible for actions on the approved plan shall report progress to the strategic planning committee.
The committee shall consist of the immediate past president, who will serve as chair, and up to four (4) additional members appointed by the state organization president. The state president shall serve as ex officio, with vote, and the state executive secretary shall serve as ex officio, without vote.





The Educational Excellence Committee (appointed) shall promote international and state programs and projects for excellence in education, including World Fellowship. The committee shall act as a liaison between its international and chapter counterparts in disseminating materials and suggestions. The committee shall consist of a chair and up to four (4) members representing different areas of the state. In addition, the following people shall serve on this committee: a) the state music representative; b) the U.N. Liaison. This Committee adopts certain International goals annually.

The Legislative Committee (appointed) shall inform members about legislative issues and encourage them to work toward improving education and the status of educators. When possible this Committee hosts an Advocacy Day annually to invite members to visit the General Assembly to speak with their respective representatives.





The Scholarship Committee (appointed) shall take action on recommendations from the international scholarship committee, promote interest and support for scholarships, and recommend state scholarships for graduate study. The committee shall award professional enrichment stipends to Virginia State Organization members for educational endeavors. The committee shall consist of a chair and up to four (4) members. The state treasurer serves as ex officio member of the committee, without vote.





The Virginia Scholars Award Committee (appointed) shall coordinate the annual recognition of outstanding women graduates majoring in education at a four-year Virginia college or university.
The committee shall consist of a chair, the state coordinating committee chair, and a representative from each coordinating council.
